An installation, animation, and projection produced with young creatives from King’s Lynn, inspired by the town’s history of cinema
Visit the Kinema of Dreams between 17 October and 01 November at the Majestic Cinema and, after dark, at Greyfriars Tower. A treat for all the family this Halloween half-term.
- See the 5 minute animated short film and installation at Majestic Cinema
- Then visit the projection at Greyfriars Tower after dark
Travel through King’s Lynn’s past where local legends come alive – from Black Shuck and the wild dogs of the Fens to witches and their trusty familiars – and discover which classic film was the first to play at the iconic Majestic Cinema. This immersive spectacle unearths a local cinematic past and present, bringing old film technology to life with exciting new projection methods. And look out- you may see some of these characters at night, sneaking across the old greyfriars tower…
With projection, animation and creative writing by Edalia Day (National Theatre, Theatre Royal Norwich, Sundance Film Festival) and installation design by Lucy Marsden (Fish Fabrications, Laurence Edwards Studio, NUA), this work was cocreated by FUSE, Collusion’s collective of local young creatives (16-30). This twenty-strong crew have shaped the project through regular workshops from conception to exhibition, contributing stories, poetry, music, animation, projection and design.
Kinema of Dreams is part of Collusion’s WE ARE LYNN series of projects, which engages the young people of King’s Lynn as co-creators in the development of new public artworks that explore their identities through interactivity, light, sound and projection.
Director and Co-founder, Rachel Drury adds “Our WE ARE LYNN projects aim to empower the young people of King’s Lynn to feel connected to their town, and supporting their self-expression and well-being. We want to help amplify these young creativesir voices and share their creativity in a way that engages the wider community in their extraordinary take on the story of cinema in King’s Lynn ”.
FUSE meets monthly and is free to attend, if you are aged 16-30 and would like to join, sign up here.
