Build and code you own digital light show using a BBC micro:bit
In 2018, as part of our REVEAL project, Collusion worked with eight primary schools in the King’s Lynn area to create and code 300 digital light boxes which would feature within REVEAL’s live shows. A series of eight workshops introduced Year 6 children to new skills in circuitry, design and coding using BBC micro:bit. Furthermore, we created an instructional YouTube video and series of coding challenges so that everyone else could join in the fun.
We invite you to create your own digital light show by building and coding your own digital light box. The full list of EQUIPMENT you need to build your digital light box is included in the How to Make Your Digital Light Box document in the RESOURCES section below. You can borrow micro:bits from most librarys and there are many maker clubs operating including Code Clubs which offer support and advice with projects such as these, as well as new and more advanced projects if you are interested in doing more.
The film above shows you how to put the components together to create your digital light box and the short films below show you how to code them to achieve different lighting effects. We’ve also got a written ‘step by step’ guide for each stage linked in the RESOURCES section below.
